Bullish picks three blockchains for digital versions of company shares
Bullish, the NYSE-listed crypto exchange operator, said it will offer blockchain versions of company shares on Solana now and plans to add Aptos and Ethereum. It gave no timeline for the two additions.
Bullish picks three blockchains for digital versions of company shares
A company listed on the New York Stock Exchange has put its own shares on a public blockchain, and now it wants other companies to follow on more than one network. Bullish (NYSE: BLSH), which runs a crypto exchange, said Tuesday that it "today named Solana, Aptos and Ethereum as the initial network partners for its equity tokenization services" [1][2].
Solana is already in use [1]. Bullish said it "plans to expand to Aptos and Ethereum," but it gave no timeline for either [1].
The mechanism
A blockchain version of a share, which the industry calls a tokenized share, is a digital token that represents a real share of stock and can move between digital wallets on a public network. Bullish's pitch is that the company issuing the stock should control that token, which it calls an "issuer-sponsored" model, rather than an outside firm creating a lookalike [1].
The legal record doesn't move to the blockchain. Bullish said that supporting several networks lets issuers reach investors where they already are, "while the official record of ownership stays with the transfer agent" [1]. A transfer agent is the firm that keeps a company's official list of shareholders, and Bullish has agreed to buy one. In May, the release said, Bullish agreed to acquire Equiniti, a transfer agent, "in a $4.2 billion transaction" [1].
Bullish's case for several networks is that investors are scattered. "Investors and liquidity are spread across multiple public blockchains," the release said, "and tokenization infrastructure built for capital markets needs to work across them" [1]. Solana, Aptos and Ethereum are separate blockchains, each with its own users, wallets and fees.
The evidence
Bullish has used its own stock as the test case. In May, Bullish said, it "became the first NYSE-listed company to fully tokenize its own equity cap table on Solana," meaning its full record of who owns its shares [1]. That is Bullish's claim. Tokenized BLSH shares later began trading on Bullish Exchange, the release said [1]. In the same stretch, Bullish and Equiniti convened the Issuer Sponsored Token Coalition, which the release describes as "a non-exclusive industry working group advancing an issuer-sponsored model for tokenized securities, in which issuers tokenize on their terms and maintain their relationship with shareholders" [1]. The pitch to other companies, in other words, is that putting shares on a blockchain need not mean handing them to a crypto firm.
Then came a public demonstration. On Oct. 27, Bullish and Equiniti held an event at the New York Stock Exchange where Bullish chief executive Tom Farley and Equiniti chief executive Dan Kramer "demonstrated the transfer of 61 million tokenized reserved Bullish shares on Solana, administered by Equiniti, with the transfer completing in seconds," the release said [1]. Farley also showed a company sending a digital pass for Bullish's Consensus conference straight to a shareholder's wallet, as a way to reward investors [1].
Those 61 million shares have a purpose. Bullish said it "has earmarked sufficient shares for closing the Equiniti acquisition, with the final amount issued at closing to be determined in accordance with the merger agreement" [1].

Thomas Cowan, Bullish's head of tokenization, framed the choice as giving investors access. "We want to ensure that the issuer tokens we create for our issuers are available on key blockchains for our investors," he said. "Supporting Aptos and Ethereum is the logical next step to meet the market and continue strong industry growth" [1].
The release lists what Bullish thinks issuers would gain: "round-the-clock markets, near-instant settlement, programmable corporate actions, real-time visibility into share ownership and new ways to engage and reward shareholders" [1]. Bullish said it intends to offer the Solana capabilities "on Aptos and Ethereum, and on other networks over time" [1].
The objection
So far, the main issuer is Bullish itself. The release names no other company that has signed up to put its shares on any of the three networks, and the 61 million shares moved at the NYSE were Bullish's own, reserved for its own acquisition [1]. The demonstration showed a transfer completing in seconds, but it didn't show outside investors trading those tokens across networks. Bullish also sells the tokenization services it is promoting [1]. The Equiniti deal "remains subject to remaining regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions" and is "expected to close in January 2027," Bullish said [1].
The tell (Le Coin's view)
In Le Coin's reading, the interesting choice is the hedge. A company that built its own case on Solana now says it needs Aptos and Ethereum too, because that's where other investors keep their money. That's an admission that no single blockchain has won the job of holding company shares. And by keeping the official ownership record with a transfer agent it agreed to buy in a $4.2 billion deal, Bullish is treating the old record-keeping job, not the blockchain, as the part worth owning.
