Evening brief: JPMorgan lists JPM Coin on Ethereum, Mesh and Visa plan wallet spending, bitcoin ends 0.36% above Friday

JPMorgan's Kinexys page now lists its JPM Coin deposit token as issued on Ethereum as well as Base, Mesh said wallet crypto will be spendable wherever Visa is accepted, and bitcoin was at $81,798.63 at the 4:00 p.m. ET close of the US session, 0.36% above Friday's close after giving back most of its morning gain, per CoinGecko.

JPMorgan now lists its JPM Coin deposit token as issued on Ethereum as well as Base, and Mesh said it will make crypto wallet balances spendable wherever Visa is accepted. JPMorgan's approved counterparties get a bank-issued dollar token on Ethereum's main network, and wallet users could reach more than 175 million Visa merchant locations, by Mesh's count, once participating wallet apps go live. [3][4]

Mastercard and Coinbase pitched stablecoin services at the Money20/20 USA conference, while the CFTC's fight with CME over crypto perpetual futures waits on a judge. [5][6][7]

What printed

01 · JPMorgan lists its JPM Coin deposit token as issued on Ethereum, not only Base. JPMorgan's Kinexys page, last modified at 10:30 a.m. ET Monday, now reads: "JPM Coin is a deposit token issued on Ethereum, the Layer 1 blockchain network, and Base, a Layer 2 Ethereum network." At 10:16 a.m. ET it still described a Base-only token. The bank calls JPM Coin "a bank-backed digital deposit token" and "not a cryptocurrency or a stablecoin," and says "only vetted, approved counterparties can participate." The page links the Ethereum contract 0xb2906cCED1b2c8330480414CeFA1eb52bDBd73A3 and warns that look-alike tokens at other addresses are not affiliated with J.P. Morgan. [3]

02 · Mesh says wallet crypto will be spendable wherever Visa is accepted, with no launch date yet. Mesh, a crypto payments firm, announced a partnership with Visa "to make crypto and stablecoin balances spendable across Visa's global acceptance network," which it puts at "upwards of 175 million merchant locations." In Mesh's design, "A Visa credential is provisioned behind the scenes," so the shopper pays from a wallet balance and the merchant gets "a standard payment, with no need for new hardware." Mesh says "Initial availability, supported devices, and participating platforms will be announced as rollout details are finalized." [4]

03 · Mastercard and Coinbase pitch stablecoin services at Money20/20. Mastercard announced Stablecoin Security, which gives financial institutions "a risk score before a payment is completed" and flags "fraud, scams, sanctions and other financial-crime risk indicators" in stablecoin payments. Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are its first partners. The service is "launching first in North America, with commercial availability expected worldwide in 2027," Mastercard says, with wider reach planned through BVNK, "the stablecoin infrastructure provider it acquired in August 2026." Separately, Thunes, a cross-border payout network, said Coinbase "will integrate Thunes' Direct Global Network into its platform" and "will power Thunes' stablecoin infrastructure." The two gave no launch date. [5][6]

04 · The CFTC tells a judge CME can't show "a dollar of harm" from crypto perpetuals. In a reply brief filed Friday, the CFTC argued that the Chicago Mercantile Exchange lacks standing, the legal requirement to show real injury, to challenge the agency's order letting derivatives exchanges offer perpetual futures on digital assets, contracts that never expire. The agency says CME's digital-asset futures volumes "are substantially higher today than before the Commission approved perpetual futures," citing 3,282,530 contracts across 12 CME crypto futures in September, up from 2,660,960 in May. When a plaintiff "cannot identify a dollar of harm," the CFTC wrote, "its case does not belong in a federal court." The public docket showed no ruling as of Monday afternoon. [7][9]

05 · Gibraltar grants Revolut's digital-assets unit a permission covering trading, custody and staking. Gibraltar's government said Monday that Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited "has been granted a permission under Part 7 of the Financial Services Act" for "the transmission and execution of virtual asset orders, the provision of virtual asset custody services and virtual asset staking services." Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory, licenses crypto firms under that act as distributed ledger technology (DLT) providers. The government says the permission "broadens the range of products and services that Revolut can offer through its app," but its release does not say which markets the unit will serve. It also expects "three DLT permissions" to be "issued during the course of this week." [10]

Open items still in play

  1. Who gets Gibraltar's other DLT permissions this week. The government expects three but named none. [10]
  2. A ruling on the CFTC's motion to dismiss CME's perpetuals suit. Otherwise, cross-motions for summary judgment are due Fri. Nov. 20. [8][9]
  3. Which wallets and devices go first on Mesh and Visa. Mesh has named none. [4]
