Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs join objectors to tokenized stock copies
The ICE and OKX venue's Oct. 19 notice lists 16 companies refusing tokenized versions of their shares, up from nine four days earlier. All seven new names were on its planned menu.
Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs have told the tokenized-stock venue owned by Intercontinental Exchange and OKX that it may not offer blockchain copies of their shares. The venue's Oct. 19 notice lists 16 objecting companies, up from nine on Oct. 15, so a growing share of what the venue planned to sell under the SEC's tokenized-stock exemption is off the table before it opens [1][4].
The seven new names are Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's, Western Digital and Alphabet, which join Cerebras, AppLovin, Applied Digital, Rocket Lab, CoreWeave, Verizon, Applied Optoelectronics, Broadcom and UnitedHealth [1]. Le Coin explained how the issuer veto works in its earlier piece: under the SEC's order, a company has 30 days to object in writing before a third-party token of its stock can trade.
A list that keeps growing
The chart below tracks the objection count in each of the venue's four public notices.
The count went from one on Oct. 4 to four on Oct. 8, nine on Oct. 15 and 16 on Oct. 19 [1][2][3][4]. Every one of the seven new objectors was on the list of stocks the venue said on Oct. 4 that it planned to offer [2]. By Le Coin's count, 16 of those 63 planned listings, from 15 companies, now face objections; Alphabet appears twice, once for each of its two share classes. Nvidia and Apple, both on the Oct. 4 list, are not among the objectors in the Oct. 19 notice [1][2].
Le Coin's Oct. 19 piece said Microsoft was not among the objectors, which was accurate as of the Oct. 15 notice; the Oct. 19 notice now lists it [1][4].
What the venue says
OKXICE LLC, a 50/50 joint venture of ICE and OKC USA Holding, says its venue "will make tokenized National Market System ('NMS') securities available for secondary market trading by retail and institutional investors" [1]. The notice gives no launch date [1].
The other side
An objection only blocks the venue's third-party tokens of a company's shares; the shares themselves trade as before. Most of the planned menu, including Nvidia and Apple, remains open. The notices do not give the companies' reasons [1], and Le Coin found no mention of OKXICE in the companies' SEC filings since Sept. 1 [5].
What to watch
The tell is the venue's next notice: whether Nvidia, Apple or other large names on its list object, and whether it sets a launch date.
