Noah says it will power Western Union's stablecoin payouts

Noah says it will convert and pay out Western Union's USDPT dollar token for the money-transfer giant's Receiver Redirect service, but neither company has given a start date or fees.

Western Union plans to let people pick up international transfers as dollar stablecoins in more than 200 countries and territories, with payments firm Noah converting and paying out Western Union's USDPT token, Noah said in an Oct. 20 release. The stakes: one of the world's biggest money-transfer networks would hand recipients a digital dollar instead of local cash, but the service is announced, not launched, and neither company has said when it starts or what it will cost.

Noah says it will run the "on-chain banking network" behind Western Union's Receiver Redirect service, which it says will support transfers in more than 60 currencies. Western Union has not posted its own release on the deal; its investor newsroom showed no item as of 1:06 p.m. ET on Oct. 21. Its only public words so far are a quote in Noah's release from Malcolm Clarke, Western Union's global head of digital assets, who called the capability "a global first."

How it works

A sender would hand over money at one of Western Union's "half a million-plus" agent locations, according to Noah. The funds would travel as USDPT, and the recipient would collect the stablecoins into a Western Union wallet. Noah says it will provide the treasury and licensing to "pre-fund, convert, and disperse" USDPT to recipients.

USDPT is Western Union's own dollar stablecoin, a token meant to hold a steady value of one U.S. dollar. Western Union first announced it in October 2025 and launched it on May 4, 2026, issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A. on the Solana blockchain and, the company says, fully backed by U.S. dollars. Noah's release adds that USDPT is not backed by the U.S. government or insured by the FDIC.

Recipients could then keep the tokens in Stablecard, a wallet and USDPT-backed Visa card Western Union launched with Rain on Aug. 4. Western Union said then that Stablecard was live in 37 markets, with 60-plus targeted by year end, and that users could receive Western Union transfers directly into its wallet.

The figure below traces the announced flow as Noah's release describes it, from the agent counter to the Stablecard wallet.

None of those steps has a published start date or fee yet.

The evidence

Noah pitches the deal at the global remittance market, which it puts at $905 billion a year, citing the World Bank. That matches the World Bank's estimate of worldwide remittances for 2024, a figure that includes money sent to rich countries as well as poorer ones. Noah also says stablecoins will cut transfer times "from days to hours" and fees to "a fraction" of today's costs, but it gives no prices for this service.

In Le Coin's view, the news is less the token than the cash counter. USDPT already exists; what Noah describes is Western Union's retail network feeding it, so a sender who never touches crypto could fund a stablecoin balance on the other end.

The objection

In Le Coin's view, the fair objection is that this is one vendor's release. "Global first" is Western Union's claim, there is no start date, fee or volume, and Western Union has not yet confirmed the scope in a release of its own.

What to watch

In Le Coin's view, the tell is whether Western Union confirms Receiver Redirect with dates, markets and fees. Its next scheduled public update is its third-quarter results call on Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
