Robinhood's Q3 2026 10-Q describes Robinhood Chain, launched in July, as a permissionless Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 and puts public stock token obligations at $185 million as of Sept. 30.
Robinhood carried $185 million of public stock token obligations at Sept. 30, its quarterly report shows, in the same quarter it launched Robinhood Chain as "a permissionless, Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 blockchain built for financial services and tokenized real-world assets" [1].
Robinhood sells two products. Stock Tokens, launched in July 2026, "are tokenized debt securities" issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited [1]. In plain words, a Stock Token is a debt security issued by a Robinhood unit, not a share, and the company must buy the underlying stock and hold it as collateral [1]. Classic Stock Tokens, launched in June 2025 and formerly called Robinhood Stock Tokens, are bilateral contracts with eligible customers in certain EEA jurisdictions [1]. Neither conveys legal ownership or shareholder rights in the underlying securities [1].
As of Sept. 30, 2026, Robinhood had "public stock token obligations with an aggregate fair value of $185 million" in Other current liabilities, backed by securities of the same fair value in Other current assets [1]. Losses on the stock token derivatives were $7 million for the quarter and $8 million for nine months, "largely offset" by gains on the backing securities [1].
On the chain, the 10-Q says lower crypto revenues were "partially offset by revenues earned from Robinhood Chain," with no separate figure [1]. The volume and fee claims come from the amended earnings release, Ex. 99.1 to the Oct. 27 Form 8-K/A, not the 10-Q: in its first quarter on Mainnet, Robinhood Chain "became a top-five chain by revenue and volume, generating over $80 billion in DEX volume and over $50 million of chain fees" [2]. The amendment itself changes only how income tax effects of non-GAAP adjustments are presented; Robinhood says it "does not affect any GAAP financial results" [3].
The 10-Q's risk factors cut the other way: activity on the chain is largely run by independent third parties and "may be difficult or impossible for us to monitor, influence, prevent, or reverse," and the network "may fail to achieve sufficient adoption" [1]. Robinhood also says Stock Tokens and Classic Stock Tokens are not eligible under the SEC's Sept. 17, 2026 temporary innovation exemption for onchain trading of tokenized NMS stocks [1].
In Le Coin's view, the tell is whether the $185 million line grows in the Q4 filing, and whether Robinhood starts breaking out Chain revenue instead of calling it an offset.
For now: a July chain launch, $185 million of stock token obligations, and fee and volume claims that sit in the earnings release, not the 10-Q [1][2].
